Gems of North Tenerife

Discover the surroundings of Akal. We have chosen this location as from here the most beautiful villages and natural spots can be reached.

Nearby we can find Garachico, Masca, Los Silos, and Icod de los Vinos, each one of them with its own charm, beauty and style.

These villages offer stunning landscapes, rich histories, beatiful fruits market and hikes spanning from the ocean to the mountain.

Icod de los Vinos: Akal Village

Icod de los Vinos, the village closer to home, is famous for its ancient dragon tree and beautiful view of Teide, it offers a unique blend of history and nature. The Drago Milenario, a thousand-year-old tree, stands in the Parque del Drago, a botanical garden showcasing Tenerife’s flora. The historic center features colonial-style buildings and charming plazas. We love to visit a family owned fruit shop near Parque el Drago.

Garachico: Architectural Beauty

Garachico, reborn from a volcanic eruption in 1706, blends historical charm with natural wonders. Explore its cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and lush squares. The natural swimming pools at “El Caletón,” formed by lava, provide a refreshing dip in the Atlantic waters. Don’t miss the Castillo de San Miguel for panoramic coastal views and a glimpse into the village’s resilient past. One of our favorite ice-cream shops is there, full of plant- based fruity options.

Masca: Magical Village

Perched in the Teno Mountains, Masca is a secluded gem known for its dramatic landscapes. The journey to Masca is an adventure, offering breathtaking views of ravines and valleys. The Masca Gorge trail is a must for nature enthusiasts, descending through the ravine to a hidden beach, showcasing towering cliffs and verdant vegetation. The village’s traditional Canarian houses and terraced gardens offer a serene escape into rural life.

Los Silos: Fruits Heaven

Los Silos, surrounded by banana plantations and fertile fields, is a tranquil haven for eco- conscious travelers. Relax in the village’s main square, Plaza de la Luz, adorned with flowers and historic buildings. Explore the nearby Monte del Agua forest in the Teno Rural Park, where lush laurel forests and diverse wildlife await. Los Silos’ cultural events and festivals celebrate Canarian traditions, providing an authentic local experience. Sunday Farmers Market is a must see, located in the main square you can find a variety of tropical fruits.
